Surf Boat Rowing

Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club has a very long and proud history in surf boat rowing since the Club’s inception in 1953. The section has been one of the most competitive in the State and has experienced success at a State and National level including producing VIC representative crews at the Australian Surf Rowers League Open Championships.

Surf boat rowing is an exciting sport where crew members develop high levels of fitness and surf skills. While previously a male dominated sport, current representation is almost evenly balanced between male and female competitors. Ages range from U19 through U23, Reserve, Open and Masters categories. Masters include 120+ years right through to 260+ years (based on the aggregate ages of the 4 individual rowers in each crew. For example, the 260+ years category is equivalent to the 4 rowers having an average age of 65 years! So age is no barrier to surf boat rowing). Anglesea will this year be looking to expand its surf boat section and we invite anyone who is interested and wants to be part of a team with a professional and friendly culture to try out surf boat rowing with the Club and become a member of a crew to compete at surf carnivals during the summer season.

We are looking to attract young men and women to try their hand in surf boats and will be arranging ‘come and try’ events, as well as working with other sections of the Club to provide suitable opportunities to participate. The opportunity will also be there however, for people of any age to become involved.

Surf boat rowing is the ultimate team sport requiring boaties to respond to any given challenge or situation. It throws up highs and lows, but most importantly, provides a community that you will be a part of forever.

Suitable training programs will be available for all crews and previous experience is not essential. If you have friends or team-mates who would like to become involved, feel free to let them know about this opportunity to develop their fitness while building camaraderie with like-minded people. The main attributes are simply interest to be involved, a willingness to learn, and to be part of a team. And most of all, the objective is to have fun.

We will be aiming to have crews training in Melbourne, Geelong & the Surfcoast throughout the year and we can match you up with the appropriate crew and sweep.

Please contact Scott Tannahill boats@angleseaslsc.org.au to discuss your interest in becoming a part of the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club boat section. Alternatively, just email the Club at info@angleseaslsc.org.au and register your interest.

Finally, we would particularly welcome interest from companies or individuals who might be interested in sponsoring the Anglesea surf boat section. This will provide great signage opportunities and promotional coverage for your business.
