COVID-19 UPDATE

March 26, 2020

We wanted to update all members on the latest information from Life Saving Victoria as it relates to clubs and members and life saving activities.

LSV recently sent updates with regards to

  • Patrol protocols

  • Club activities

  • Standard operating procedures

Club activities
All activities as advised previously except patrol should cease.

Club meetings
All club meetings must now be held via phone or video conferencing.

Volunteer training
All face to face training should cease.

Lifesaving patrols 2020
Lifesaving patrols to continue for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season, without flags and under certain conditions.
Lifesaver 30 (LSV’s helicopter) will still patrol as normal as will all Marine Search and Rescue (MSAR).
LSV is defined as a support agency under the Emergency Management Manual of Victoria.

Patrols will however be adapted to ensure our members’ health and safety is our highest priority. Additional protective measures have been taken to reduce exposure whilst also meeting our responsibilities to provide water safety at the beaches across the state.

Observational patrols – remain

  • 2 persons maximum

  • No Covid 19 impacted members or members that are in a high risk category

  • All members on patrol to be aged between 18 – 55 years old

  • Bronze Medallion award

  • ART qualified

  • No red and yellow flags up

  • Where possible display messaging (white boards, swing signs)

  • Members to remain indoors where possible ( or in vehicles or patrol tower)

  • Always maintain safe distancing and hygiene practices

Thank you to our members who are undertaking these patrols.

The club recommends that members keep up to date with the latest information on the DHHS website which can be accessed by CLICKING HERE.
