How to join our Competition Team

Please note: All competitors must register for carnivals at least one week prior to competition day. This can be done via our Registration Portal once registrations open.

Sections of the Anglesea SLSC Competition Team

 

Anglesea competes in a variety of disciplines in Life Saving Victoria carnivals. These include surf swimming, board and surf ski paddling, beach sprinting and beach flagging, surf boat rowing and Rescue and Resuscitation (R&R). 

 

Individuals must be a minimum of 15 years of age and hold a current Bronze Medallion to row a surf boat in training or competition. Boat crews require a qualified sweep at all times. 

 

Individuals can begin training for surf ski events from the age of 13 if they hold a current SRC or meet the prerequisites for their Bronze Medallion, however cannot compete in surf ski events until the u17 age group.

How can I become a coach?

 

Life Saving Victoria supports coaches interested in all levels of competition to complete coaching qualifications, including:

•    Foundation coach – Nippers and junior sport 

•    Development coach – Nippers through to seniors/open 

•    Performance coach – Senior Sport and High Performance

 

Coaches must satisfy the following prerequisites to be certified:

•    Financial member of Life Saving Victoria or another SLSA or RLSSA organisation

•    Must have a working with children check if 18 or older

•    Must complete the Australian Sports Commission Online course prior to practical component (register your details or login to begin).

 

How can I become an official? 

 

Officials are the key to the effective running of all Lifesaving events. An official is any person who controls or judges the technical aspects of a competition through the application of rules and laws of the sport. We need officials to ensure the spirit of the event is observed and enjoyed by all.

 

Each club is expected to provide qualified officials for carnivals. Prospective Officials must satisfy the following prerequisites:

•    Financial member of Life Saving Victoria or another SLSA or RLSSA organisation

•    Must have a working with children check if 18 or older

•    Must complete the Australian Sports Commission Online course prior to practical component (register your details or login to begin)

•    Must be 16 years or older.

How can I help out?

 

There are many roles that support the competition team throughout the season. These might include:

•    Age-group or section managers 

•    Carnival officials

•    Water safety

•    Carnival working parties

•    Assisting with carnival set up/pack up

•    Helping to transport equipment to/from carnivals.
