How We Operate

A very warm welcome is extended to everyone who is involved with the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club. Our Club is part of a volunteer network of Australian Surf Life Saving Clubs. Volunteer surf life saving began in Australia in 1907, and there are now over 106 thousand members across the country.

The Anglesea SLSC is an active member of the local community and is an exciting organisation which we hope will provide you with excellent education and leadership opportunities, the ability to be involved with community service, a range of social activities and a sense of community.

There are essentially five components to Surf Life Saving:

  1. Providing a community service of public safety by patrolling a designated beach on weekends and Public Holidays between November and April each year.

  2. Providing opportunities for members to advance their skills in both land based and water based awards, thus enhancing services to the public.

  3. Providing surf awareness and surf skills education to younger members.

  4. Providing an opportunity for members to compete in various physical disciplines (boat rowing, ski and board paddling, beach running, swimming and rescue events) at local, state and interstate carnivals.

  5. Fundraising to supplement membership subscriptions.

Being an Anglesea SLSC member should be enjoyable, requiring you come with a positive attitude to make the most of your opportunities. The emphasis is on developing skills, knowledge, understanding and doing your personal best.

Anglesea SLSC’s primary role is to provide a beach safety service for the public at Anglesea Beach. All lifesaving equipment, resources and operational running costs are met by the Club. The Club also provides some competition equipment.

It takes considerable funds to maintain our community service.

These fact sheets which form part of our Members Guide will provide you with information regarding all areas of the Anglesea SLSC, what you can expect and what is expected of you, the member. They will assist you to gain a true insight into what our Club is about, no matter what area you are interested in. Our aim is to be the best, whether we are patrolling the beach, learning beach and surf skills, competing in championships, being a vital part of our local community or simply having fun.
