The 2009 Rock2Ramp was held in bright sunshine and 25 degrees with flat seas and little tidal influence providing perfect swimming conditions for competitors. There were 733 registered competitors including the regulars who compete year on year including celebrities Tim Lane and Peter Bachelor and those from the surf lifesaving fraternity..

The number of competitors was a little down on last year’s record entries, but still very healthy despite being impacted by having the Point Lonsdale Swim the previous day although many swimmers backed up and competed in both swims.

The men’s open event was won by ex Torquay local Jack Hansen who now lives and trains in Qld from Mark O’Donnell and Trent Goulding with the women’s open won by Harriet Brown from Kelly Higgins and Lisa Jane Harper.

The Senior category in both the women’s and men’s groups were hotly contested with Naantali Marshall in her return to ocean swims after having some time off with the birth of her first child, overpowering last year’s winner, Lisandra De Carvallo and third placed Kate Murphy.

Making it a 1 / 2 / 3 (including bubs) for Naantali, her husband Sam Hume overpowered perennial winner in Anglesea Surf Lifesaver Shane Edmonds into second place and Jude Allan finishing 3rd... This is Shane Edmonds 1st defeat in 9 years in his age group categories.

The ageless Dorothy Dickie again won the women’s hero section and announced that it would be her last Rock2Ramp, but we are sure she will be back !!. She lead in Jane Bradley and Shirley McFarland. The men’s hero section was won by Peter Moore from Keith Lorback and the competitive John Snelling.

As media articles are published they will be added to this website, so check back regularly. The Geelong Advertiser has an online gallery and also pictures have been added to the Anglesea SLSC Photo Gallery..
